In life, our reactions and how we behave are often  based on how good or how bad  we feel, what brings us pleasure or pain.   Yet, there is a grey area that for as much as cable tv and books have tried to exploit it, hasn’t really even scratched the surface.

We seek pleasure and hide the pain.

Sometimes.  There is a journey through pain that bring enlightenment.  In some cases, humiliation brings peace.  The publicity of scars and wounds are pride.  The reasons why, are often left untouched, on purpose.  The action and resulting feeling are enough because the evolution of mental anguish to physical pain is not finished its journey.  The physical tease of pain bringing pleasure is a mere milestone.

I know.  It’s complicated. Not really.

The answer is simple.  Acceptance.  I know many people who have secrets of pleasure and pain that they share with me.  In certain cases,  I have helped bring those feelings to life.   Being privy to that knowledge and experiences helped me to understand that while everything has a motivation, a reasoning,  they don’t always have to be rationalized.  Living at the surface doesn’t mean you are superficial, it means you accept things how they appear or how another wants you to see them.

This is otherwise know as compassion.

I lived a part of my life seeking a complicated mix of pleasure through pain.  I know it. I understand it.  I have also moved through it.  Life is an exciting and dynamic contradiction.  I thought boundaries inhibited trust, now I realize that they foster it.  In the meantime, I can enjoy your journey and the milestones we make.
