The Truth about Proof
I want to believe. Im an eternal optimist and I don’t think that makes me naive. It is a skill that takes time to develop. I think most of us move through life with a healthy dose of doubt. We can go as far back as as biblical times and nobody believed Jesus was the son of God, not even some of his disciples and those that considered themselves faithful.
Our world is shaped not by faith but by science. You have to prove the hypothesis, though the assumption is that its true. The weight is all in the proof. The truth can’t exist without tangible evidence.
Why can’t or why don’t we take things on faith? blind trust? What would happen if this was the default behavior on our society? Would we have peace and not war? Would manners be the mark of a man? The premise that everyone operates with a basic level on integrity. The poorest cultures understand the simplicity of happiness. There more developed we become, the more ask for proof. The burden of evidence moves against us. Is this the truth about proof? What is the turning point for proving faith?
Antagonism can’t exist in isolation. It is the dramatic outcome and behavior that we seek. The twisted excitement to controversy. The positive is just not dramatic enough.
Its time to look for the proof in the positive.
Quote of the day: “technology is nothing. What’s important is that you have faith in people; that they’re basically good and smart, and if you give them the tools they’ll do wonderful things with them.” – Steve Jobs
